Now an independent senior legal counsel and senior business advisor, Andy has over 40 years of broad experience in law and business, serving as a partner of McMillan LLP and as General Counsel of a TSX listed company. During his 33 years at McMillan, he became one of Canada’s leading business lawyers, earning first tier status both nationally and internationally in leading directories for his expertise in banking, insolvency, and commercial litigation.

Andy’s insolvency experience includes advising debtors, directors, all types of creditors, receivers and other court officers, and financiers and purchasers of distressed businesses. He focuses on gaining positive results for clients by combining effective practical measures with technical excellence. A key architect of many seminal transactions, Andy became a Fellow of the Insolvency Institute of Canada in recognition of his successful efforts to promote reform of Canada’s insolvency laws.

While still practicing full time, Andy served as McMillan’s Managing Partner for 10 years, energetically leading its transformation from an established Toronto law firm into a successful national firm. As a result, he was selected as one of Canada’s most influential lawyers. Andy was also a transformational leader as General Counsel, helping his company resolve complex situations while gaining formal recognition as one of the world’s most ethical companies.

Andy is a graduate of the University of Toronto, studying economics and mathematics at University College and law at the Faculty of Law. He has served as an Adjunct Professor of the Faculty of Law.
